Ferrari: “Zero compromises” on F1 2022 despite McLaren fight

Formula1 2022 car

The Ferrari Formula1 team said from the start of the 2021 Formula1 season that their focus was on the 2022 Formula1 car. Despite being in a battle with McLaren for third in the championship they were adamant all season that the focus was only on the 2022 car and this was the case as their team Principal spent a major chunk of the season at their factory instead of attending races.

It has been stated in Autosport that “Ferrari did not extend the developments of its 2021 car despite its fight for third with McLaren, believing there could be “Zero compromises” for next year’s Formula1 technical regulations.

Their fight with McLaren lasted till the last race of the season and in the end, Ferrari was able to secure the third position by being 47.5 points clear in the Championship table. Their triumph over McLaren was made even sweeter at AbuDhabi as Carlos Sainz managed to close out the 2021 season by scoring a podium finish for the Italian outfit.

He has further stated that “we have asked that 25 times, and no way. The only development we had in the second half of the year was the hybrid, which again is something we will use for next year.”

The Ferrari team introduced the new hybrid system at the Russian Grand Prix and Laurent believes it gave them just a slight boost in their fight with McLaren but was nothing special.

He further added that their car was very exposed to getting overtaken during the season and it made the speed of the car a bit less relevant because once someone overtook us, it was pretty much it. So the little boost in performance since the Russian Grand Prix somewhat helped the team in maximizing the potential of the car.
