George Russell’s race pace questioned by Red Bull team adviser Helmut Marko ahead of the 2022 F1 season

George Russell the former Williams driver has joined the Mercedes Formula1 team ahead of the 2022 Formula1 season and the RedBull team adviser Helmut Marko has however questioned George Russell’s pace as he is set to go up against Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen during the 2022 Formula1 season.

It has been stated in the INDEPENDENT that the RedBull team adviser Helmut Marko has question marks over George’s Russell’s capabilities as a race driver and wonders if he would be able to challenge the lights of Lewis and Max during the 2022 Formula1 season.

George Russell has replaced Valtteri Bottas at the Mercedes outfit who is going to drive for Alfa Romeo during the 2022 season. Valtteri spent five years at Mercedes during which he helped the team in winning five consecutive constructors championships.

George Russell who is only 23 years old has a very important Formula1 season ahead of him as he will look to prove his doubters wrong. The young brit has taken up a lot of responsibility as at Mercedes the demands are extremely high from their drivers. Moreover, he would be partnering with the 7-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton.

Given the caliber that Lewis Hamilton has got, it won’t be easy for George to get the better or at least stay at par with Lewis in terms of pace. If this was not enough, he would also have to deal with the threat of the new Formula1 world champion Max Verstappen.

Currently, the odds are stacked against the young British driver and it would be up to him during 2022 as to how he handles the pressure of fighting alongside Lewis Hamiton and Max Verstappen. Many pundits believe that George Russell has got the potential to become a future world champion and during the 2022 season, many eyes will be on his performances for the Mercedes Formula1 team.

The 2022 Formula1 season is just a month away with winter testing starting on 23rd February, the upcoming season is expected to be a closely fought season and it is going to be interesting to see if George is able to prove people like Helmut Marko wrong during the 2022 Formula1 season.
