Lance Stroll has always driven under the extra baggage of expectations in Formula 1. Lance stroll is the son of the billionaire Lawrence Stroll, who is also a part owner of his current team, Aston Martin. Nobody can deny that Lance Stroll has been brought up with a silver spoon in his mouth. But the flip side of the coin is that he has also proved his worth time and again with his dominant triumph of the Formula 3 European title.

Just like Max Verstappen, he also skipped a couple of rungs in journey from Formula 3 to Formula 1. This has earned Lance Stroll the tag of a ‘pay driver.’ There have been instances when the Canadian has been able to keep his seat because of the backing of his father. Max Verstappen hasn’t had the same level of criticism because the Dutchman has been able to produce results week in and week out, unlike Lance Stroll.

The start to the new season hasn’t been far from ideal for the Aston Martin driver. Aston Martin had to find a replacement for Sebastian Vettel who had tested positive for COVID-19. The ever so talented, Nico Hulkenberg, was chosen as his replacement. Lance Stroll was in for a shocker as he was outqualified by his team mate who had been away from the sport since 2020.

This didn’t go well with Ralf Schumacher, an ex formula 1 driver. He took a dig at Lance Stroll when he said, “Stroll should ask himself about whether he should find a different hobby, it was really embarrassing. Nico did a good job.”

He also impliedly attacked Lawrence Stroll and his team. He said, “They copied a Mercedes for years, it’s like they don’t know how to design a car anymore.”

“Their car doesn’t look good. To compete at the top you need more than ambition and money, Formula 1 is a special sport. It’s not just about marketing and branding.” As reported by planetf1.

We can’t say this early into the season if Ralf Schumacher’s criticism of Lance Stroll is fair or not, but with the evidence in front of us, it’s ideal to say that Aston Martin and Lance Stroll need to up their game in a big if they want to be competitive this season. The next race is in less than a week’s time in Saudi Arabia.
