“I don’t think we will be competing for wins,” Lewis Hamilton makes shocking Mercedes revelation amidst sandbagging claims

Mercedes driver and 7-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton have been tipped as one of the favourites to win the 2022 Formula One drivers title. The Briton looked resurgent and vengeful in claiming his 8th title after losing the 2021 championship in a controversial way.
Red Bull driver Max Verstappen clinched his first Formula One Drivers Championship title in 2021. The Dutchman won the title after an epic duel with Lewis Hamilton whom he overtook in the last lap of the last race in Abu Dhabi to claim his maiden title.
But according to Hamilton, the car and his team are still in the process of extracting the best of the W13 and have to learn more about the car to unlock its true potential. He thinks his team are not ready to aim for wins. While critics claim this to be the usual “sandbagging” that Mercedes do prior to the season start.

“We have some hurdles to overcome” says Lewis Hamilton

Mercedes may be the holders of 8 consecutive Constructors Championship titles, but Lewis Hamilton says Ferrari, Red Bull and Mclaren are much faster than the silver arrows based on their performance in the Pre-season testing in Bahrain. Hamilton stated that it’s still early to state if Mercedes will win the season opener in Bahrain on March 20.
Lewis said “It is too early to have those kinds of thoughts about the world championship, but at the moment I don’t think we will be competing for wins. There is potential within our car to get us there. We’ve just got to learn to be able to extract it and fix some of the problems, which is what we’re working on.”
Hamilton added, “We have some hurdles to overcome and obviously next week we’ll get a much better showing of our pace, but I think people will be surprised because people keep talking about whether we’re talking ourselves down or not, but it’s a bit different this year.”
Mercedes have caused a stir in the F1 paddock after unveiling a seamless sidepod design. The silver arrows have won the opening race of the season in each of the last three seasons. But with the new regulations, the team see itself in the midst of a level playing field.
