The 2021 Formula 1 season saw Red Bull Max Verstappen ending Mercedes’s and their 7 times world champion Lewis Hamilton’s dominant title securing F1 world title which has been eluding Red Bull since 2013. Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton produced one of the historic title duals in F1 ,with action and drama throughout the season. Max Verstappen overtook Lewis Hamilton in the last lap of season finisher in Abu Dhabi GP thanks a controversial unlapping decision from race director Michael Masi.
The controversial finish which broke the point deadlock overshadowed the intense racing the rivals produced as the decision still yield mixed reactions from the F1 community. Lewis Hamilton remining completely silent, until breaking it recently, in both public a social media which cause speculations to rise about his retirement.
Multiple opinions came out since the Abu Dhabi incident with some expressing their wish to see more of the 2021 drama and others opposing the view . Carmelo Ezpeleta, who is the CEO of Dorna that has the exclusive commercial and TV rights to MotoGP, F1’s two wheel ‘cousins’ has expressed his opinion on the unsavory drama that occurred between Lewis Hamilton and max Verstappen in 2021 in context of MotoGP.

Carmelo Ezpeleta said he doesn’t want a MotoGp race to finish as it happened in F1 2021 Abu Dhabi GP. Carmelo Ezpeleta said though he wishes two drivers to fight for the title in the last race of the season, as Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton did throughout the year, controversies at the end as it happened in Abu Dhabi were not good adding he is not with or against what happened in F1 last year.
“I would not like to have a finish in MotoGP like the one in F1. I wish for two drivers fighting for the title in the last race, but the way the whole thing played out. I’m not for or against anything. It was a fantastic championship, fought throughout the year but in the end, there were controversies that were not good,” Carmelo Ezpeleta told MARCA.
Carmelo Ezpeleta went on say he likes to see championships were the fight remains until the end but he doesn’t dream about the uncertainties in the air as the affecter effect of incidents like of Abu Dhabi. Carmelo Ezpeleta added his distaste towards such incidents pointing at the 2015 dual between MotoGP legends Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez which saw multiple crashes, as of Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, but both the MotoGP legends lost out on championship that season due to multiple DNF’s.
“I like to have a championship, if possible, disputed until the very end. But I don’t like that after the end they created doubt, that the runner-up [Hamilton] doesn’t talk anymore. I certainly don’t dream about that,” Carmelo Ezpeleta said.
“Although everyone was very happy from the point of view of the media impact with the 2015 mess between Rossi and Marquez, I don’t dream about those things,” Carmelo Ezpeleta added.
