Max Verstappen‘s emphatic win at the Dutch Grand Prix where the pressure was on at his home circuit has taken him one step closer to secure the top spot in the 2021 driver championship.
Winning in Zandervoort has allowed the Red Bull driver to reclaim the lead by 3 points over Lewis Hamilton, in what is turning out to be an exciting and neck to neck battle for the title. Red Bull team principal Christian Horner praised the youngster, saying that no pressure is too much for Verstappen.
Two time World Championship Mika Hakkinen seemed to agree with Horner and said that Verstappen is mature beyond his years. Hakkinen said it was common knowledge that Red Bull is the quickest package this season in his column with Unibet.
He mentioned the accidents in Silverstone and Budapest did put him behind and allowed Hamilton to take the lead in the Drivers standings at the beginning of summer holiday. Verstappen’s performance at Zandervoort has impressed the retired Finn driver, and he believes that the best car possible is underneath Max at the moment.
“There was a lot of Pressure this Weekend, but Max Verstappen Did not Let Anything Distract Him,” Mika Hakkinen
Hakkinen believes that Max has the concentration and focus to win the World Championship this year. “There was a lot of pressure on him at the weekend – and it is amazing to remember he is still only 23 years old – but he did not let anything distract him.”
Hakkinen lauded the efforts of Mercedes as well, saying that Hamilton and Bottas had put up a good fight to be able to put them ahead of Max Verstappen.
While Verstappen dominates the field in the drivers championships, the Red Bull team as a whole has fallen behind in the Constructor Championships, after Sergio Perez’s rather poor performance has put hampered the team’s chances. “One thing which Red Bull need to work on is helping Sergio Perez to support Max more closely because Mercedes will always have Lewis and Valtteri working well together.”
As the Italian Grand Prix draws closer, Verstappen will be looking to emerge victorious over Hamilton, who will have an advantage in Monza this weekend.
