Max Verstappen‘s emphatic win at the Dutch Grand Prix was undeniably one of the most important of this season, as took the lead over Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton in the drivers standings.

Verstappen handled the pressure of racing at his home Grand Prix incredibly well as he dominated in Zandervoort, where an F1 race took place after almost 36 years. Holding his nerve, Verstappen has taken back the lead of 3 points in what is turning out to be an exciting and neck to neck battle.

Verstappen thanked the home crowd at Zandervoort saying, “An incredible feeling, of course, to win in front of the fans, but also the King was watching with the family. Just an amazing day,” according to planet F1.

However, Verstappen’s day ended in a frenzy, as his father was rushed to the hospital. After the Dutch Grand Prix, while celebrations of the Orange Army were still on going, Jos Verstappen required medical attention in an emergency. Jos was transported via helicopter to the hospital in Roermond to tend to him.

However after being flown to the hospital it was understood that Jos was suffering from inflamed intestines. He was treated immediately with antibiotics and the situation was brought under control.

“Jos had been having problems with his intestines for a few days,” said his manager Raymond Vermeulen to Het Laatste Nieuws. “He watched until halfway through the race, but then couldn’t walk straight anymore.”

Jos has agreed to be checked out of the hospital soon, since he plans to travel again. The 49-year-old will not suffer from any long term issues, and is expected make a full recovery soon. “He was then able to go home again. Everything is going well with Jos.”

This news comes as a sigh of release as Verstappen moves on to the Italian Grand Prix, where he faces a tough task of defending his top position against the Mercedes cars.
