Max Verstappen the 2021 Formula1 world champion has recently during an interview shed light on why he changed his number from #33 to #1 for the 2022 Formula1 season.

As per the recent Twitter post by Sky Sports, the new Formula1 world champion has said that “I mean how many times do you get the opportunity to swap so, and number #1 is the best number out there so yeah, for me, it was very straight forward to pick the number 1 and hopefully of course number #33 doesn’t come back next year.”

It seems Max Verstappen is delighted with being able to switch from number #33 to number #1 for the 2022 Formula1 season and believes it is the best number out there to get. Moreover, he has also admitted that he is going to do his best to make sure the #33 does not come back during the 2023 Formula1 season.

If Max Verstappen wants to keep a hold of #1 beyond the 2022 Formula1 season, then he would have to fend off a driven and hungry Lewis Hamilton who lost out on the 2021 Formula1 title in controversial fashion during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix of last season.

Lewis Hamilton was in a commanding position during the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and it was only after Nicholas Latifi’s crash that Max Verstappen was able to get back in the race. However, the main culprit behind the whole Abu Dhabi saga was the FIA race director Micheal Masi.

Micheal Masi allowed some of the lapped cars to go ahead of the safety car and while all this was going on Max Verstappen was able to get behind Lewis Hamilton with one lap remaining. Max was on a fresh set of soft tires which ultimately helped him in getting past Lewis Hamilton who was running an old set of hard compounds.

A lot was said after the race by the Mercedes team and as a consequence of all the drama, an investigation is currently in full swing into the incidents of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix by the FIA.
