The 2021 Formula One World Champion Max Verstappen is set to pen down a new contract extension with Red Bull Racing. And with the contract, the 24-year-old is set to be the highest earner on the grid along with title rival Lewis Hamilton.
Earlier this week Red Bull Cheif Advisor Helmut Marko confirmed that the team is holding negotiations with Max and his representatives, his manager Raymond Vermeulen. Marko understands that Max will bring him more titles and is sure to hold the prodigy with his parent team
Verstappen’s current contract extends till the end of the 2023 season. He is the second-highest-paid driver on the current grid, only trailing Lewis with an annual salary of $25 million. But that will soon be news of the past!

Max Verstappen on par with Hamilton
Max has been Red Bull’s triumph card after disrupting the Mercedes dominated Turbo-Hybrid era and claiming his maiden title in 2021. Max is a prodigy of Red Bull’s academy and became the youngest F1 winner ever when he won his first race, the 2016 Spanish Grand Prix, with Red Bull at 18-years of age. Since then, Max has been the focus of Red Bull’s development and ambitions to claim their first title since 2013 F1 championship win under Sebastian Vettel.
According to Daily Mail and Dutch publication De Telegraaf, Verstappen’s new deal will be seeing the Dutchman earn around $53.3 million in a season. This takes him on par with Lewis Hamilton as the highest earner on the Formula One grid ahead of the 2022 season
Max had previously stated that he would love to stay at Red Bull for another fifteen years if he can. He believes the feeling to stay with the team is mutual. With Red Bull breaking the bank, the team have symbolically shown their trust in the Dutchman by giving him a contract on par with the 7-time World Champion.
