Max Verstappen will never join Mercedes as Helmut Marko indicates one race ‘destroyed’ chances

Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton have gone tow to tow for the whole of the 2021 Formula1 season with Max Verstappen coming out on top in the final title-deciding race of the season. It is Max Verstappen’s maiden Formula1 championship which he got the opportunity to win because of a controversial decision by Micheal Masi.

In a recent interview given to the Express RedBull team adviser Helmut Marko has ruled out the chances of Max Verstappen ever joining the Mercedes Formula1 team given what happened during the whole 2021 season. There is a lot of animosity between the two outfits after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

In his interview, he shared a lot regarding the 2021 Formula season and especially pointed out the antics of the Silverstone Grand Prix. Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton crashed during the Silverstone Grand Prix and it led to Max getting hospitalized while Lewis went on to win the Silverstone Grand Prix.

Helmut said that the RedBull crew was okay until the point where Lewis won the race. But things got out of hand when they saw Lewis celebrate the victory the way he did. He insisted that was the last nail in the coffin of Max ever joining the Mercedes team.

Max Verstappen has previously said that he wants to stay at RedBull for the entirety of his racing career and RedBull’s team adviser seems to be backing his statement. He has said that Max is still evolving and has not reached the climax of his career yet.

Max has always been seen as the successor of Lewis at Mercedes after he decides to hang up his gloves. But what Max and Helmut have said in recent interviews, it now seems highly unlikely that he would ever leave the RedBull Formula1 team. It seems Mercedes would have to look at other options once Lewis Hamilton’s career as a Formula1 driver is over. He is 36 years old and who knows for how much longer he is going to continue in Formula1.
