Christian Horner’s Red Bull and Toto Wolff’s Mercedes have traded blows for the best part of the last decade with Mercedes having the upper hand in the latter half of the decade. Red Bull has won 4 consecutive constructor’s championship from 2010-2013 while Mercedes has just the double of that. Mercedes took over from Red Bull in 2014 and were rampant from 2014-21 winning a grand total of 8 championships.

Red Bull have not been able to make inroads ever since 2014 and have failed to deal with pace and engine problems. Red Bull, being a drinks’ company, doesn’t make his own engine. Back in the day, Renault their direct rival provided them with the engine and did a decent job but Renault’s engine was just below par in their last year with Red Bull and hence the marriage ended.

Fortunes changed for the Milton Keynes outfit ever since their collaboration with Honda. The ball started rolling in the right direction and the team hasn’t looked back from there. Christian Horner has made it clear that Mercedes cannot control Red Bull anymore after years of dominance. Mercedes have their work cut out this season.

Christian Horner in one of his interviews said, “We are a bit more of a maverick than any other team and that is why Mercedes have not been able to control us.”

“Either through engine supply or drivers, Mercedes have done that with pretty much every other team over past years.”
