Mercedes could have Charles Leclerc opportunity if Lewis Hamilton ends contract early

Charles Leclerc the Ferrari Formula1 driver could switch camp at the end of the 2022 Formula1 season if certain things don’t pan out a certain way during 2022. Charles is seen as the next world champion by Ferrari and if they want to make sure that Charles stays at Ferrari after 2022 then they have to give him a car worthy of fighting for the title.

It has been stated in the gazette that Mercedes could have an opportunity in the future to get their hands on the highly-rated Charles Leclerc. As per Charles Leclerc’s contract, there is a clause that if Ferrari finishes lower than third in the constructors in 2022 then he would be free to terminate his contract with the Ferrari team.

Charles could prove to be an option for Mercedes if Lewis decides to quit after the 2022 Formula1 season.

Charles Leclerc’s 2021 season for Ferrari

During the 2021 Formula1 season Charles was second best to his new teammate Carlos Sainz. However, the disappointing season was not only down to his performances, he was at the center of some bad luck as well during the season.

Charles only managed to score one podium during the 2021 season whereas his teammate scored four but Charles was able to finish fourth six times during the season. Charles was on course to win Ferrari their first race of the 2021 season by having a strong outing in Silverstone but Lewis was able to overtake Charles with two laps remaining.

Charles was really quick all season in qualifying and he was able to secure pole twice during the season. However, during the Qatar Grand Prix, he looked out of sorts in qualifying as he said on the team radio “This time I don’t really have an explanation. I lacked the feeling with the car. “

The 2021 season was a mix-bag for Charles but his team still has a lot of faith in his young shoulders and believes if they can provide Charles with a car capable of fighting with the lights of Mercedes then the 2022 season could prove to be one of the best seasons for the Ferrari Formula1 team.

Moreover, it is vital that Charles gets a strong car during 2022, otherwise, they could end up losing their star driver at the end of the 2022 Formula1 season.
