Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas enjoyed a lot of success with Mercedes as they won 5 constructor’s championships in their time together. But, the speculation was always their during Valtteri Bottas’ time with Mercedes was that he is the number 2 driver for the team and always played second fiddle to the seven time world champion. To a certain extent, we can say that there was some truth to the statement.
Toto Wolff has come out and said this oftenly that there is no number 1 and number 2 at Mercedes but his actions have pointed to something exactly different. This treatment had raised questions of Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton’s relationship. But the current Alfa Romeo driver has cleared the air regarding his relationship with his ex team mate, Lewis Hamilton.
Valtteri Bottas said, “It’s been nice. It was pretty natural. After the race, I drove past him on the in-lap and I heard he was on the podium, so I gave him thumbs up and he did the same.”
“And we actually flew together after the race to Dubai. And we flew from Dubai to Saudia Arabia. So we’re still sharing flights. In a way, nothing has changed.”
