Official: George Russell Completes his Highly Anticipated Move to Mercedes

One of the most promising young talents on the current grid has been British driver, George Russell who is a prodigy of the Mercedes junior academy. Having earned his way into Williams F1 earlier, it was being rumored since the initial races of 2021 season, that Russell could be on his way to the Brackley based team in the 2022 season. However with Valtteri Bottas, struggling Russell’s performances seemed even better to race fans.
Now when Bottas found a seat at Alfa Romeo, courtesy to Kimi Raikkonen retiring after the end of the current season. It only seemed a matter of time when George Russell was going to be confirmed of his seat at Mercedes since the 2022 season. And now on Tuesday, Mercedes have officially confirmed the signing of George Russell into the team since the beginning of the next season.
George Russell to Mercedes Confirmed
When Toto Wolff and Mercedes decided to end the five-year partnership of Bottas and Hamilton, Russell seemed to be the ideal option. Knowing that he is considered one of F1’s best young talents and will now have the chance to test himself in equal machinery against the seven-time World Champion.
Talking about Hamilton, he trails rival, Max Verstappen by just three points in this year’s title fight and could be an eight-time world champion by the time 2022 starts.
To those who are unaware, George Russell has actually raced as a Mercedes once before, as a stand-in for the reigning World Champion, Lewis Hamilton ahead of last year’s Sakhir Grand Prix. The former Brit looked set to win that race until a late Mercedes pit-stop blunder relegated him down the order.
