According to Ralf Schumacher, the best candidate to replace Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes is none other than the former four-time champion Sebastian Vettel.

While talking about Sebastian, Schumacher has said “Vettel would take the responsibility 100 percent. That would be a possibility, especially since a personnel change has now taken place at Aston Martin that may not be quite as ideal for Sebastian. If he had the opportunity to get into this team, of course, he would take it one hundred percent, because [it’s] a better chance to race again that’s what Sebastian wants. He wants to win races he showed that too.”

Lewis Hamilton has got very little time to make his mind as the first testing for the team is on 23rd February. He and the FIA are locked in a race against time.

In the 2021 season, a new award was introduced by the FIA known as the “overtaking award”. It was introduced specifically for the backmarkers as at the front end drivers don’t usually have a lot of overtaking opportunities.

Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso, and Kimi Raikkonen were locked in a three-way battle for the award all season and in the end, Sebastian was able to nick the award away from Fernando and Kimi by scoring 132 overtakes during the Formula1 2021 season.

Other than the overtaking award, the 2021 season was a disappointing one for Sebastian Vettel and Aston Martin as they struggled throughout the season and ended their campaign in 7th in the constructor’s championship. Aston Martin had a very successful 2020 campaign which saw them fighting against the lights of Mercedes and RedBull but during 2021 their package was just not good enough.

While teams like Ferrari made significant progress during the 2021 season, the Aston Martin team went in the opposite direction and ended their campaign in 7th. Both Sebastian and Lance struggled throughout the season and we’re fighting against the weaker teams like Alfa Romeo, Williams, and, the Hass F1 team.

For the 2022 season, both Sebastian Vettel and Aston Martin would be looking to make a big step up and it is going to be interesting to see how well Sebastian and the whole Aston Martin team are able to perform during the 2022 season of Formula1.
