Saudi Arabia GP: Lewis Hamilton faces crushing Q1 ouster in Jeddah for first time since 2017

Lewis Hamilton

Mercedes suffered a horrendous start to the Race weekend after failing to find the pace in all the three Free Practice sessions of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. And the weekend just got worse after Lewis Hamilton was knocked out in Q1 of the Qualifying session.

The Seven-time World Champion has been a regular feature in the first row of the race grid for the past few seasons since he joined Mercedes. But the unthinkable has happened as Hamilton has been knocked out for the first time in his career since the 2017 Brazilian GP.

Lewis will start the race P16 and this will mark the first time since the 2017 Brazilian GP. This is now the worst start that the Briton will make after having a successful spell in Formula One in the recent past.

Hamilton out of Q1 for the first time since 2017 Brazilian GP

Lewis Hamilton made a quick exit after struggling to push his Mercedes to the front of the grid. The Mercedes was relatively off the pace and was much slower than teammate George Russel who finished Q1 in P4. And this reminds us of the 2017 Brazilian GP where he was last knocked out so early.

Hamilton lost the back end of the car with over-steer, seemingly due to a driver error, crashing to retire from Q1 without setting a lap time. Hamilton elected to change his gearbox and power unit, so started the race from the pit lane. Hamilton still managed to finish the race in 4th position.

Hamilton pushed his car up to P15 but was pushed back in the elimination zone after Esteban Ocon and Lance Stroll posted a better time than the Brit. He joins the two Williams of Albon and Latifi, Hulkenberg and the AlphaTauri of Yuki Tsunoda in the back of the grid.
