The longest serving team principal in Formula 1, Sir Frank Williams passed away at the age of 79. He marked over 50 years as a team principal in 2019, having served two teams over the year, with the latter going on to win seven drivers and nine constructors championships.
Sir Williams and his daughter Claire ran the team on a daily basis since 2013, only leaving Formula 1 last year after selling the team to investment firm Dorilton Capital. He served on the board till 2012, after which he stepped down to release some load.
Condolences Pour in as Sir Frank Williams Passes Away

Following the news of Sir Frank’s death, a statement from Williams said, “It is with great sadness that on behalf of the Williams family, the team can confirm the death of Sir Frank Williams CBE, Founder and Former Team Principal of Williams Racing, at the age of 79.”
The official Formula 1 social media page also issued a statement.
F1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali said according to Formula1, “This morning Claire Williams called to inform me of the very sad news that her beloved father, Sir Frank Williams, had passed away. He was a true giant of our sport that overcame the most difficult of challenges in life and battled every day to win on and off the track. We have lost a much loved and respected member of the F1 family and he will be hugely missed.”
