Max Verstappen the all-new Formula1 champion has lauded the former 7-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton. The Red Bull driver in a recent interview has showered praise on Lewis Hamilton for the sportsman spirit that Lewis has shown over the years and especially after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
It has been stated in Sportskeeda that Max while talking about the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix has said “Well, I mean for sure, it was a very tough situation, to lose the championship on the last lap. But, I think in a way, it is difficult to compare myself with him because I was fighting for my first title. He already had seven. So, in a way, you can take a bit of comfort out of that but nevertheless, I’m sure it is a painful situation.”
He further added that “What was very nice was Lewis came straight up to me after he was out of the car and he congratulated me and that’s I think what real sportsmen do and especially from Lewis to see that was really nice. And also Lewis dad [Anthony Hamilton] by the way.“
After the end of the race, Lewis Hamilton and Anthony Hamilton went up to Max and Jos Verstappen and congratulated them on Max’s maiden Formula1 world title.
Max Verstappen on his conversation with Lewis Hamilton
Max while talking to the press has revealed details of the conversation he had with Lewis Hamilton after meeting him in the Parc Ferme after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
In an interview with David Coulthard, Max Verstappen has said Lewis Hamilton was one of the first people to congratulate him on his maiden world title. He further added “I was[going crazy] the whole team was going crazy but of course, there is the other side where they are very disappointed and upset. I think what was nice was Lewis[Hamilton] immediately came up to me, walked down, and said ‘congrats’ and I said “Thank you very much for an amazing season.”
Max Verstappen is in awe of Lewis Hamilton for the kind of sportsmen spirit Lewis showed after the race and it has made Max respect Lewis even more than he already does.
Max Verstappen’s triumph in Abu Dhabi made him the first-ever Dutch world champion of Formula1 and he is only the 23rd different driver to win a world title. He is also the fourth-youngest driver to ever win a Formula1 world championship.
