Mercedes’s F1 Team Principal and CEO, Toto Wolff has led his team to achieve absolute dominance in the sport since he joined them in 2014. With him, the Silver Arrows have achieved 8 consecutive constructor’s championship titles along with 7 driver’s titles achieved by Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. But since the new regulations have rolled out their era of dominance seems to be coming to an end.

Mercedes have suffered a poor start and has been struggling to find the pace. The W13 has suffered from porpoising and this has made the car unstable in the straights finding itself behind mid-field cars and backmarkers. Mercedes-powered teams have also been struggling for straight-line speed at times compared to those running Ferrari and Red Bull-badged power units.

But Toto Wolff seems to be enjoying the improved racing the new age cars have brought. When asked about the improvements in overtaking ability of the cars, the Austrian said positively, “the cars delivered on what F1 hoped for”

The new regulations imposed before the 2022 Formula One season focused on improving the racing element of the sport. The new Cars can now follow and overtake their frontrunners with ease and these changes have levelled the playing field. Although it might concern a struggling Mercedes, Toto Wolff has applauded the improvements.

Toto Wolff said, “I think yes, they have achieved what they wanted to achieve. [There has been] spectacular racing, good overtaking, [and] the grid has been shaken up! Well, this is less fun for us, but it happened. The midfield is extremely close so, overall, I think from the entertainment factor, I’m happy about the hype that is around Formula 1.”

He added, “I think they achieved the target and you can only applaud how that all came in. I like it, personally, I think the cars delivered on what F1 hoped for. Great overtaking and [the] DRS is powerful, but it provides a great show now. I think that was entertaining to watch!”

The Team are 40 points behind Ferrari in the Constructors championship after the first two races of the 2022 season. The team look to cut the deficit as they head to Melbourne the next weekend of the Australian GP. Mercedes are bringing new upgrades to Melbourne for the Australian GP on April 8-10.
