“They are still free to fight,” Mattia Binotto gives the green light to Carlos Sainz to battle it out against teammate, Charles Leclerc
Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz
Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc have had an outstanding start to the season but in spite of that, Leclerc has looked a couple of steps ahead of everyone with Max Verstappen only looking like a potential threat. Knowing Carlos Sainz’s mentality, this wouldn’t have gone down well with the Spaniard. We all know that the team mate is your biggest enemy as he will be the metric you will be measured on, keeping in mind that both have the same cars.
Carlos Sainz has already bagged two podiums and we are only three races into the season. But it will quite a climb if we were to talk about him in the same breath as Charles Leclerc who has had a flawless start to the season and is yet to put a foot wrong in the competition. Max Verstappen has definitely been a thorn in his flesh but he somewhat buried that debate for the time being at the Australian GP.
If Carlos Sainz has the intention to fight for the title, he would have to turn it up a notch. The Spaniard got the better off Charles Leclerc last season finishing ahead of him, which had never previously happened in the small but illustrious career of the Monegasque driver. It seems like Charles took it personally and decided to make amends this season.
Mattia Binotto not ready to put any restrictions on team mates Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz racing each other
Previously, we have seen team Principals restricting the drivers to race each, but that has changed this season. We saw the two Alpines fight it out in Jeddah and now Mattia Binotto has given the freedom to Carlos Sainz to express him even if it comes at the cost of him racing his own team mate.
Mattia Binotto said, “They are still free to fight.”
“I think the situation will improve for Carlos. He will come back stronger. I will then enjoy the back and forth for position [between the two].”
“I know Carlos and he will come back and come back pretty strong. I’m just looking forward to Imola now to see his speed again.” As reported by planetf1.
Carlos Sainz was pretty unlucky both in qualifying and during the race. The Ferrari man had to retire for no fault of his own. But the races are coming thick and fast. Hence, the Carlos will have to come back stronger and quickly if he wants to have a shot at the title.
