Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton were in a tight battle all season long during 2021 and their tussle was able to drag on until the last race of the season. At the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, Lewis was in control for most of the race and was able to build a commanding lead over the rest of the competition.

It was only after Nicholas Latifi’s crash that Max was able to get back in the race. He was able to go for a cheap pit stop under the safety car which allowed him to put a fresh set of soft tires on his car.

The pack of cars gathered up behind the safety car with Lewis in front and a few lapped cars between him and Max. While this was going on Micheal Masi was getting bombarded with radio messages from Mercedes and RedBull. Everything was in control till this point but on came Micheal Masi’s decision which allowed the lapped cars to go ahead of the safety car after which everything went haywire in the race for Lewis Hamilton.

Max was able to take advantage of the whole situation and was able to get behind Lewis before the last lap of the race. Masi finally decided to get going with the race on the final lap and this gave Max the perfect opportunity to overtake Lewis Hamilton as Max was on a fresh pair of soft tires whereas Lewis was running an old set of hard tires.

Ultimately Max overtook Lewis at turn 5 of the last lap of the season and was crowned the new Formula1 champion for the 2021 season.

The new FIA President Ben Sulayem has attempted to contact Lewis Hamilton via text but is still waiting for Lewis Hamilton’s response. This has led to the circulation of rumors of Lewis Hamilton retiring from the sport.

An investigation is taking place regarding the incident but the whole report is not going to be made public until the first practice session of the 2022 Bahrain Grand Prix.

Mercedes has recently denied BBC’s claims which stated that Mercedes and the FIA struck a deal according to which Micheal Masi and head of single-seater technical matters Nikolas Tombazis were to leave their positions for the 2022 season of Formula1 in exchange for Mercedes dropping their appeals against the incident.
