Lewis Hamilton didn’t just lose record breaking 8th world title in 2021 he also saw his long-time partner Valtteri Bottas, who is moving on to Swiss F1 outfit Alpha Romeo after his 5-year stint with team Mercedes. Valtteri Bottas  will join Alpha Romeo in place of retiring former world champion Kimi Raikkonen and will partner with the only Rookie of 2022 grid Guanyu Zhou.

Though Valtteri Bottas had his most successful time at Mercedes he was often criticised for not giving a proper title challenge against his teammate Lewis Hamilton a Mercedes as the Britt went on to win consecutive world titles and Valtteri Bottas often settling for the 2nd place with 10 podiums and a turkey GP win in his name. Valtteri Bottas finished P3 in 2021 drivers’ championship behind his Lewis Hamilton and champion Max Verstappen.

Valtteri Bottas visited Alpha Romeo’s headquarters in Hinwil, Switzerland after his winter break joining the team. Valtteri Bottas, shared a story in his Instagram handle announcing he will be Alpha Romeo’s “No 1” driver. The post shows that’s Valtteri Bottas will very much exited to fill the no:1 driver post after he spend last 5 years as Mercedes No:2.

What’s Ahead of Valtteri Bottas in 2022

Valtteri Bottas will join first full time Formula 1 driver from China Guanyu Zhou for his Alpha Romeo debut and will also have to fill the role of being a mentor for the rookie. Valttri Bottas will be facing strong criticism if he fails outperform his new partner consistently and if he fails all his success with Mercedes will be branded as only due to his dominant Mercedes car .

Valtteri Bottas said he hopes 2022 with Alpha Romeo will be “A new chapter in my racing career is opening: I’m excited to join Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN for 2022 and beyond for what is going to be a new challenge with an iconic manufacturer……especially with the new regulations in 2022 giving the team a chance to make a leap in performance,”.
