Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc won the first race of the season in Bahrain. The Monagesque won his 3rd Grand Prix by claiming the top step of the podium. Fellow teammate Carlos Sainz finished on 2nd making it a Ferrari 1-2.
Lewis Hamilton was considered “out of the race” by many after the Brit managed only a P5 in the Qualification. But after both Red Bull drivers failed to finish the race, the 7-time World Champion finished the race as 3rd and grabbed an unlikely podium spot.
Red Bull drivers Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez both suffered reliability issues. Verstappen was forced to retire towards the end of the race while Sergio Perez suffered a spin. George Russell was fourth, Kevin Magnussen an impressive fifth and Valtteri Bottas sixth.

With Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz finishing P1 and P2 this is the first Ferrari race win and 1-2 since the 2019 Singapore Grand Prix. Charles’s last win came in 2019 in Monza. Ferrari’s struggles over the past two years made this victory all the more sweeter for the team and Lewis Hamilton was soon to realise it.
Hamilton congratulated them saying “A big congratulations to Ferrari, so good to see them doing well again. Such a difficult race, we’ve struggled throughout practice and this was the best result we could. We’re grateful for these points, the guys are working really hard back at the factory, there’s a long way to go.”
Max was closing in on Leclerc after the safety car period and made multiple lunges on the Ferrari towards the start of the race. Leclerc defended his position firmly till the very end and Ferrari executed their strategies perfectly to give the Monagesque a comfortable victory.
