“We cannot go back unfortunately,” Lewis Hamilton admitted to not ‘expecting an apology’ after FIA admitted to an ‘error’ in Abu Dhabi GP report
Max Verstappen Michael Masi and Lewis Hamilton
Lewis Hamilton has been a part of many a seasons but nothing even close to what unfolded last year. Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen went wheel to wheel throughout the course of the season. The duo couldn’t even be separated going into the last race of the season as they were tied on points with everything to race for in the last race in Abu Dhabi. But what happened in the last could not have scripted.
Lewis Hamilton was in control of the race for the most part of it. But just before the end of the race, Nicholas Latifi crashed which brought the safety car in play and at that moment Michael Masi took that controversial call of letting selective lapped cars past the safety car which left Max Verstappen, who was on the fresher set of tyres, on the tail of Lewis Hamilton. The Dutchman took full advantage and clinched his first world championship.
FIA and Michael Masi had to go through a barrage of criticism after the race for a decision which, prima facie, was against a letter the law. This forced FIA to look into the matter and take a decision after a detailed analysis. The outcome of the thorough investigation has led to the FIA admitting to the ‘human error’ committed by the then race director but has declared the result to be valid.
Lewis Hamilton not surprised by how FIA has conducted themselves after admitting to a human error in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix report
There has been no apology from the FIA to Lewis Hamilton and this hasn’t surprised him. He, in one of his interviews, said, “We know that is the way it is, and that was probably not going to happen.”
“But at least there is that transparency, and it has been called a human error and that is a positive step.”
“We cannot go back unfortunately and change the past so I just look at what I can do now.”
“I think the FIA will have learned how things should not be handled.” As reported by skysports.
Abu Dhabi has been a difficult result to swallow for Lewis Hamilton as it snatched away his historic eighth world championship making him an outright most successful driver in F1’s history. But Lewis has decided to move on and focus on the next season and win it this year.
