“Everything went wrong,” Carlos Sainz left disappointed after a miserable outing at Australian GP

Carlos Sainz

After a disappointing qualifying session, where Carlos Sainz was able to set up his car only upto P9 on the grid, his Sunday was expected to be a tough one. Carlos Sainz had a magnanimous task of putting his car into the top 3 ahead of him at the Australian Grand Prix, as he would have to show courage and confidence on track to overtake the likes of Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton, Sergio Perez and a lot more.

Ferrari had set up a different strategy for Sainz than his teammate Charles Leclerc, after starting the race on the hard compound tires. Carlos dropped positions in the very first lap of the race and later on went into the gravel at turn 10, ending his Sunday with a DNF.

Well that’s not all, in an interview Carlos Sainz said, “I had to change the steering wheel before the start and it wasn’t set up correctly. I had anti stall at the start and I lost positions. Then I tried to attack with the hard wheel and I went off. Everything went wrong. You have to be more perfect. We have to recover.”

Charles Leclerc ensures Ferrari dominant start

The Australian Grand Prix took a huge turn when the Ferrari of Carlos Sainz retired early on and Max Verstappen’s Red Bull retired on lap 39. While Red Bull and Ferrari looked favourites for the weekend, a cheeky P3 was stolen by George Russell.

The Monegasque, Charles Leclerc grabbed his second victory of the season with a beautiful drive around Albert Park. He looked confident after a decent start and ended the race on a high. Ferrari would surely be happy with getting at least one car into the top 3 but they have got to be disgusted with what happened with Carlos Sainz.

Overall, a good weekend for Ferrari as they extended their lead as their rivals also faced a DNF for one of their cars. The championship race is on, and it’s going to be easy for the current Formula 1 champion for him to repeat what he did last season.
