“George Russell fits in and fits the position like a glove,” Lewis Hamilton showers praise on new Mercedes teammate

“George Russell fits in and fits the position like a glove,” Lewis Hamilton showers praise on new Mercedes teammate

George Russell is the new Mercedes star boy after the youngster managed to convince everyone of his high levels by showcasing consistent performances in the subpar Williams car. Russell was referred to as ‘Mr Saturday’ by the commentators and the fans alike due to his strong performances in the qualification in the three seasons he has driven for Williams.

After getting a podium in the wet Belgium GP after he out-qualified his current teammate Sir Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes took no more time to decide that George Russell would be the next driver to get the seat in the championship-contending Mercedes. Russell and Hamilton seem to be getting along well as teammates as Lewis said that George fits into his new team “like a glove”. The 2022 title would be an interesting one to watch since there are new regulations put in place alongside a new world champion since 2013, Max Verstappen.

George would be Hamilton’s third teammate in Mercedes, following former world champion Nico Rosberg and current Alfa Romeo driver Valtteri Bottas. Hamilton recently met Russel during the launch of their 2022 Silver Arrow car. After the meeting, Hamilton seemed quite optimistic about his future with Russell. He said,

“He has had an amazing run getting to Formula 1 and he was already a part of our team so I have seen him around engineering, seen him over time in the simulator and seen him at Williams.”

“So he fits in and fits the position like a glove. So far, it is great,” he said.

“Hopefully, our styles aren’t too dissimilar. I know what it is like for him being in a position up against a world champion and I know the pressures that come with it, the expectations and the external feeling of what it is like.”

“I want him to learn as much as he can and grow as much as he can. I have no doubts he is going to be a strong competitor. I will be focusing to make sure I also do the job to the best of my ability.”

The 2022 season of Formula 1 is filled with a lot of uncertainties especially considering the new regulations. All eyes will be on the young George Russell as he is ready to face a new challenge by teaming up with the 7-time champion and one of the greatest F1 drivers, Lewis Hamilton.
