The 2021 Formula One season is shaping up to be an exciting one, as Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton are engaged in a tight battle at the moment. Max Verstappen leads the championship for the first time in his career, after winning the Monaco GP 2021. Verstappen has 105 points from his five races, whereas, Hamilton slipped to the second spot after finishing seventh at Monte Carlo.
However, after the race, the two drivers exchanged a few words indirectly. Max Verstappen stated that he does his talking on the track, whereas, Lewis Hamilton did not bother to pay attention to the Dutchman’s comments and stated that he does not want to engage in a childish war of words.
Max Verstappen agrees with Lewis Hamilton, and believes that it is best for him to avoid those sort of things at the moment. “If they come [mind games], I mean, I can’t be bothered by it,” said Max.
Lewis and I really respect each other: Max Verstappen
Max Verstappen said that his comments after the Monaco GP were made out of pure emotions, and stated that there is immense amount of respect between him and Lewis Hamilton.
“To be honest, mind games, I think also Lewis said after the race, he doesn’t want to play these things. So we just have to focus on what we have to do on the track anyway, which I think we do,” said Max.
“And that’s also the best. I mean, whatever is said in here [press conference], sometimes at the end of the day it can be a bit emotional sometimes after a race or before a race,” he added.
“And it also sometimes depends on how you get the question asked, so it’s all right. I think Lewis and I really respect each other. And I think that’s very important,” the Dutch driver continued.
The next race of the season will take place in the city of Baku this weekend, as Max Verstappen hopes to remain on the top of the championship.
