“It is reassuring for other teams,” Lando Norris shockingly happy to see Mercedes and Red Bull struggle in this new era of F1

After eight years of its domination or the entirety of the hybrid era lasting from 2014 to 2021, Mercedes seems to have hit a slump with the development of its 2022 car, and people seem to be liking it, including McLaren’s driver, Lando Norris. He believes that as Ferrari has taken the top spot on the grid and seeing Mercedes slacking is motivating for others.
Lando Norris, as quoted by Daily Mail, said, “In a way, it is nice to see that Mercedes don’t always have success. It shows that even when you have had that success, you can still get things wrong. It is easy to get things wrong.”
Currently, Mercedes stands third in the constructors’ championship. The Brackley-based outfit is struggling with porpoising resulting in the loss of pace and balance. Norris added, “Much as I hate to say it, it is good to see Ferrari up there. And it is reassuring for other teams to know it is still possible. If it were just Mercedes and Red Bull again, it would be so predictable.”
Lando Norris’ view of Lewis Hamilton’s situation
Lewis Hamilton’s hunt for the eighth championship has taken a turn. The Briton is struggling to perform in the new car, which also saw him getting eliminated after Q1 during the qualifying session of the Saudi Arabian GP.
Lando Norris, taking a view of this situation, said, “With Lewis, you are seeing the challenge of one of the best drivers competing in a car that is not the best. We will see a different side of Lewis compared to the last decade.
He added, “But I don’t think you can say it is all about the car, rather than Lewis’ ability. I just don’t believe in the last few years he has had quite the challenge that he could have had, or maybe that he had against [Nico] Rosberg. Perhaps we will see that against George. I don’t think anything takes away the driver he is.”
Lando Norris signed a massive contract with McLaren before the 2022 season, which lasts till 2025. The driver and the team didn’t get the start they would’ve hoped for. He finished P5 and P8 in the practice sessions for the Australian GP.
