Lando Norris reveals why he decided he speak out over mental health issues
Lando Norris
McLaren driver, Lando Norris is one of the most talented drivers on the Formula One Circuit. After having made his debut in 2019, Lando Norris has risen through the ranks. The young Briton has bagged two consecutive P6 finishes in 2020 and 2021.
Lando Norris is not only a great driver out on the tracks, but he is also quite vocal about the mental health issues that have bothered him. Recently, the Briton revealed the reason as to why he decided to be honest about his mental health issues.
Norris opined that many athletes out there face mental health issues, but do not come out in the open and speak about it. However, the McLaren driver believes that by speaking up on these issues, one athlete can help another who could be going through a similar situation.
“I think first of all, I’m very happy to see more people speaking out about it, and realising that it’s only going to benefit them and benefit others,” Norris said.
“So I don’t think there’s any negative, really, from doing so. It’s only going to help you get better, and it’s only going to help, if you have a big following, if you have a lot of people watching or whatever it is, whenever you say it, then you’re only going to be able to help other people who are also struggling,” Norris added, as quoted by RacingNews365.
Lando Norris on creating an impact on fans and followers
Lando Norris believes that his greatest plus point of speaking out against mental health issues has been the acknowledgement of his fans and followers. Several fans of Lando Norris have learnt from his experiences.
“I think one of the biggest things which made me think it’s a very good thing to speak out on it is my fans, my followers Especially when I kind of would hint at it, for example, the first few times, before I was even speaking about it publicly, a few of them [were] saying how much it’s helping them and the impact I can have on them,” said Norris.
“And over time realising that the impact I can have on those hundreds of people, thousands of people or whatever, is huge,” he added.
Lando Norris added that with the fan base he has, it will be easier for him to spread awareness on mental health issues, which affects millions of people around the globe every year. Norris is one of the most followed F1 drivers, given his rise to prominence in the last three years.
“So the more I saw that, the more I realised the impact I can have and the place I am [in], in Formula 1, in my life, with the followers I have and the fan base I have, the bigger the impact, and therefore I thought it was better to speak about it more publicly and worldwide and so on, and try and help as many people as possible,” Norris added.
