The entire sporting fraternity was left shocked by the sequence of events that occurred during the final few laps of the Abu Dhabi GP. Max Verstappen came home victorious to claim his first ever championship, as fans argued that Lewis Hamilton was robbed of his eighth championship, despite having a 11-second advantage prior to the deployment of the safety car.

With just one lap remaining, the FIA allowed the lapped cars between the two championship contenders pass the safety car, and we were given an epic one lap final showdown. Max Verstappen, who came into the pits to change his tyres obviously had the advantage, whereas, Lewis Hamilton was on much older set of tyres, which exceeded 40 laps.

Lando Norris took a subtle dig at the FIA decision, and stated that the entire decision to give a final lap showdown was meant for the TV. He stated that he was shocked with FIA’s decision, but did not go any further than that.

Lando Norris stated that it is not up to him to decide if the result was fair or not, but he was surely surprised by the sequence of events that unfolded. Only cars between the two rivals were allowed to lap themselves, which added to the surprise of several drivers.

“I didn’t actually know it was only the first few, up to Max. So it was obviously made to be a fight, it was for the TV of course, it was for the result. Whether or not it was fair, it was not up to me to decide. I just have to say congrats to both drivers,” said Norris as quoted by PlanetF1.

To suddenly do it just for the final lap and for a one-lap shootout, I’m a bit surprised by,” he added.

Lando Norris had a pretty solid season in F1 this year, as he finished P6 for a third consecutive time with McLaren. He had an amazing start to the season, and one can believe that his form dipped going into the second half of the season. Nevertheless, it was a good year for McLaren and Lando Norris as a whole.
