“I want to get in the fight as soon as possible,” Lewis Hamilton not too ‘stressed’ about W13 performance

The Bahrain Grand Prix started off on an unbelievably high note with Ferrari finishing 1-2 with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz on the podium alongside Lewis Hamilton who finished P3 after a rough start. His teammate, George Russell finished P4 behind him although the team is worried about their performance over the coming races as problems back at the Mercedes garage have just begun with the drivers agreeing for the same during the de-briefing.

With Lewis Hamilton and George getting lucky at the season opener after Red Bull retired both the drivers, Lewis has warned Mercedes that they “can’t rely every weekend” on issues such as fuel system to hit Red Bull but Lewis Hamilton is ready to put up a strong fight and is not too stressed by the early Mercedes form ahead of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix where the Briton will be starting his 180th GP with Mercedes this weekend.

Lewis Hamilton talks about the team and the problems in the new W13:

This 180th GP is very special to the whole team as it not only showcases the long duration of the partnership Mercedes has with Hamilton but it also surpasses the partnership Michael Schumacher forged at Ferrari. Lewis Hamilton is very optimistic about the situation at Mercedes and finds a lot of potential within the car and has put his full faith and confidence in the people behind the work and says, “I have no doubt that I’ve got the best group of people behind me in order to come up with solutions and fix it and extract performance. So, I don’t currently feel too stressed. But I want to get in the fight as soon as possible. We need to move fast forward as fast as we can.”

The increasing ride height to combat porpoising was a factor in performance loss and when asked about the number, Lewis said, “I’ve not been given exact numbers, but I know they’re large. The cars that are ahead of us, for example, have an incredible amount of low-speed downforce.” While Lewis Hamilton is excited to win Jeddah, he should lower his expectation if at any point it runs back-to-back with Bahrain.

Yet the team at Mercedes is working extra hard with their heads down, focused, churning through crazy amounts of data in the last couple of days with a huge amount of work going on. While the team is aware of the problem, there are having trouble finding out the cause and rectifying the trouble without losing performance.
