“Max Verstappen is driving this car like he is Alain Prost,” Mark Hughes shares insights into Dutchman’s pre-season testing

Max Verstappen has caused ripples in the Formula One community with many questioning the Dutchman’s win. After a sensational season where the 24-year-old claimed his maiden World title, many have questioned his legitimacy to retain the title.

Lewis Hamilton lost the final race in Abu Dhabi to Red Bull’s Max Verstappen after racing Wheel-to-Wheel in a nail-biting 2021 season. The controversial ruling by the then Race Director Micheal Masi allowed the cars between Hamilton and Verstappen to unlap themselves giving the Dutchman a chance to make the overtake on the Briton with his fresher soft tyres.

But Max is nevertheless a prodigy who made his way into F1. At age 18, Max was the youngest driver to win a Grand Prix following his win at the 2016 Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona. And with the 2022 Pre-season set at the same track, he is already talking business ahead of his title-defending season.

Renowned F1 Journalist and Pundit Mark Hughes shared a tweet via Race.com. Mark is present at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for the Pre-season Testing. Having witnessed the Dutchman in the morning practice session, he has high praises for the 2021 World Champion.

The journalist stated that the moves and driving of Max are reminiscent of the 4-time World Champion Alain Prost. “Verstappen is driving this car like he is Alain Prost, much smoother inputs than before – I’ve noticed it through every corner so far” cited Mark who is amongst the select few journalists allowed to cover the closed-door Pre-season Test.

Max will partner with Sergio Perez ahead of the 2022 season. And just like Prost who managed to defend his first F1 Championship title in 1985 by reclaiming the title back in 1986 with Mclaren, Verstappen will aim to repeat the same and hold on to his crown!
