Max Verstappen was crowned the F1 2021 champion, a few weeks back at the Abu Dhabi GP. The Dutchman defeated Lewis Hamilton, denying him a record eighth championship title. Now, he enters the 2022 F1 season as the defending champion for the first time ever.

This year will see a huge overhaul of changes in F1, with several new regulations in effect. There will be new aerodynamics which will facilitate overtaking, and reduce impact of dirty air in racing. However, Max Verstappen stated that he preferred the older cars because of the speed and grip it offered.

Moreover from this year, the cars will feature 18-inch wheels rather than 13-inch wheel. Verstappen stated that due to these changes, 2022 F1 season will be interesting, and it will need some adaption.

I like the current cars in terms of speed because it’s really impressive how much grip you have,” Verstappen said.

“So, the new cars definitely will be a few seconds slower. But that is with the idea of having better racing, that you can follow a bit closer, that’s what they [F1] want. Because, at the moment, when you get close you have a lot of disturbance from the car in front,” he added.

Speaking about his driving style, Max Verstappen revealed that he has no particular style. The Dutchman added that for him, the most important thing is adaption. The 24-year-old stated one has to change his driving style on the basis of the circuit, and the conditions on offer.

Everyone always says, ‘What is your driving style like?,'” Verstappen said.

Well, I don’t think I actually have one, it’s just you adapt to the situation. That is your driving style because, if the car is understeery, you have to adapt yourself to the understeer. If the car is oversteery, you have to adapt yourself to that. So you cannot say ‘this is my driving style and that’s how I’m going to drive‘,” he added.

Max Verstappen added that it is impossible for any driver to have one driving style. The entire strategy depends on the package and other conditions. “It’s impossible because, sometimes, it just doesn’t work with the material you have. So I think adaptation at the end of the day is key,” he continued.
