Max Verstappen battled past all odds this season, as he emerged as the new F1 champion in 2021. The Dutchman denied Lewis Hamilton his record eighth championship, as he snatched the title away from the Briton on the final lap of the Abu Dhabi GP.

Max Verstappen was simply incredible this season, having recorded 18 podium finishes which is itself a record. However, a part of Verstappen’s success has to be attributed to his team, engineers and team principal, Christian Horner.

Max Verstappen received a hero’s welcome at the Milton Keynes Factory, as Red Bull won the drivers championship for the first time since 2013. Verstappen had a very special gift for his team principal, Christian Horner as the duo shared a heartwarming moment.

Max Verstappen gifted Christian Horner his helmet for the 2021 season, with his own signature on it. The duo shared a warm embrace after that, as they recalled on how terrific the season had been.

Thank you very much. This (helmet) did its job this season,” Horner laughed. “I do not think there has been a championship like that,” said Horner as he recalled the epic 2021 season.

Max Verstappen agreed with Horner and pointed out to the fact that the championship battle was close in 2008, where it went down to the Brazilian GP. However, the Dutchman added that it was not a direct battle between the two championship contenders.

Max Verstappen will hope to recharge his batteries in the winter break, and come back even hungrier for the next season. The pressure will now be on the 24-year-old Red Bull driver to deliver, as he is no longer just a contender, but the reigning champion.
