Mercedes have been a dominant force in the last decade of F1. The German giants have won seven consecutive constructors champions, and are chasing their eighth title this season. Lewis Hamilton has won four consecutive championships, and has already established a 14-point lead after just races this season.

Monaco GP will be held this weekend, which is the fifth race of the season. Sir Jackie Stewart, three time world champion believes that Lewis Hamilton is the favorite to win in Monte Carlo this week. Although, he respects Max Verstappen’s talent, yet he believes that Hamilton has tremendous amount of experience.

“I think Verstappen might be the driver going around Monaco quickly, but the Mercedes-Benz is still the best car on the track with a huge benefit to the driver – and that’s its strength,” Stewart said.

Whether it’s Lewis, who I think is the number one driver in that team without any doubt. [Valtteri] Bottas I think is very good but he’s nothing in the same class [as Hamilton]. But the car is so good that he [Bottas] in fact can be a competitor and could even win the race,” he added.

Jackie Stewart believes that Max Verstappen could be a major threat to Lewis Hamilton this season, because of his aggressive driving. However, the F1 legend believes that Red Bull are still no match for Mercedes, and expects the German side to come out on top this weekend.

“I think Verstappen could be a serious threat to him because he drives very aggressively. He’s a top-line racing driver, but the car definitely is no match for the Mercedes,” said Stewart.

“Lewis has been driving for a very long time. He’s a senior citizen, really, in grand prix line-ups, if you look at the facts of his career. Your concentration must be absolutely right. You’ve got to have a decent starting position. It’s still the most glamorous, the most colourful, the most exciting [race],” he added.
