Lewis Hamilton was unable to win his eighth F1 championship, as Max Verstappen went on to claim his maiden title in a dramatic turn of events. By allowing the lapped cars to pass the safety car, Max Verstappen was given a chance to attack Lewis Hamilton with a fresh set of soft tyres to snatch the championship away from him.

Nicolas Hamilton, brother of Lewis Hamilton was left stunned and angered by the controversial FIA decision. On his Instagram account, Nicolas called out the FIA for breaking their own rules. He went on to say that the FIA was a disgrace to the sport after what happened in the final laps of the Abu Dhabi GP.

The FIA broke their own rules, which is a disgrace to our whole sport. Nevertheless, regardless of being mistreated today, the Hamilton’s were humble in defeat,” he wrote.

Although Lewis Hamilton lost his championship on the final lap, his father and Lewis Hamilton displayed every bit of sportsmanship after the race. Lewis Hamilton made it through the entire podium celebration with a smile on his face, something which his brother, Nicolas applauds him for.

Nicolas Hamilton credited this behavior of Lewis to the upbringing they had received from their father.

“My father, the guy who raised us, congratulating Max & his father Jos. People can say what they like, but my Father’s gesture proves all of the doubters & haters wrong & shows who we are as ‘The Hamilton’s’. Proving people wrong is in our DNA, which Lewis does on a daily basis. With utter professionalism & decency in defeat, even though we all know, that he was let down by the sport that he has given so much to,” he continued.

However, at the end of the day, no one can deny the fact that Max Verstappen was certainly a deserving champion. 10 race wins, 10 pole positions and a record 18 podium finishes were achieved by Max this season. Nicholas took a moment to congratulate Verstappen for his deserved victory after his rant at the FIA. “Congratulations to Max for such a fantastic season from him,” Nicolas concluded.
