Sebastian Vettel on ‘why’ he does not want to miss his time at Ferrari
Sebastian Vettel
Sebastian Vettel ended his six-year reign of being a Ferrari driver last year, after the Italian side decided not to renew his contract. Instead, they signed Carlos Sainz, who had a solid first season as a Ferrari driver.
Sebastian Vettel made his move to Aston Martin this year, and did not have the best of years, majorly due to an inefficient car. Speaking about his time at Ferrari, Vettel revealed that he is much happier now than he was at Ferrari. Moreover, he does not want to miss his time at the Italian team, after a dismal 2020 campaign.
The four-time champion also stated that at Ferrari, their main aim was to become world champion, which did not materialize.
“Well, my departure from Ferrari was maybe a bit strange. In that respect, I’m happier now than before. But I would never want to miss my time at Ferrari. Even if my planned big successes failed to materialise there. We wanted to become World Champions,” Vettel told Blick.
Sebastian Vettel expects Ferrari to become world champions again
Sebastian Vettel opined that Ferrari will eventually start winning world championships again. The German stated that currently, Red Bull and Mercedes are clearly dominating F1, and it will take some time for Ferrari to reach their level.
“That is clearly due to the lead of Mercedes and Red Bull. Unfortunately, they continue to be so blatantly superior. But at some point Ferrari will win again and become World Champion,” he continued.
Sebastian Vettel was also asked about his chances for the next season, and whether the new regulations could lead to a better performance. Vettel stated that the huge overhaul of regulations certainly gives more hope to all drivers, as it will make overtaking a bit more easier. However, he added that there is still lot of uncertainty regarding the new regulations and how it will pan out.
“That is the big question. As I said before, a new set of regulations gives everyone hope. We now have to wait a year and see if everything develops positively – in all regions of the current standings. In short: whether everyone will really move closer together and whether there will be more overtaking,” Vettel concluded.
