Lewis Hamilton has been knighted by the Prince of Wales at Windsor Castle on Wednesday morning. The decision to knight the seven-time world champion was announced on Monday, just a day after he lost the championship to Max Verstappen at Abu Dhabi GP.

Lewis Hamilton was joined by his mother, Carmen Lockhart as the duo were all smiles on Wednesday. The 36-year-old is only the fourth F1 driver to be knighted. Sir Jack Brabham, Sir Stirling Moss and Sir Jackie Stewart have all been knighted, whereas, Lewis Hamilton is the only the first active driver to have received this prestigious title while competing.

The manner in which Lewis Hamilton lost his Formula One title is very controversial, as FIA allowed the lapped cars to pass the safety car to set up a final lap showdown between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. The latter was on old set of hard tyres, whereas, Max was on a fresh set of soft tyres. The final result was pretty much expected, as Max passed Hamilton on Turn 5, and defended his lead pretty well at Turn 9.

We have not heard from Lewis Hamilton after he lost out on his eighth world championship. He refused to speak with the reporters after being knighted on Wednesday. Moreover, Mercedes have also been quite inactive on their social media, with their last post being their intention to appeal the FIA’s decision on Sunday night.
