Toto Wolff heaps praise on Valtteri Bottas for his brilliant performance at British GP
Valtteri Bottas
Mercedes bounced back in the championship race, as Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas claimed P1 and P3 finishes respectively. On the other hand, Max Verstappen registered a DNF, following his clash with Hamilton. Sergio Perez could manage to claim only one point, which was the one for the fastest lap.
Toto Wolff, Mercedes CEO praised Valtteri Bottas for his brilliant weekend at British GP, and believes that he had the second quickest car on the grid, despite finishing third.
“He had a brilliant weekend in my opinion because he could have been on pole if he would have had a tow on Friday night and that was obviously impacting his performance. If you’re on pole it’s much easier,” said Wolff.
Valtteri was the second quickest car at British GP: Toto Wolff
Toto Wolff stated that Valtteri Bottas is a great team member, with the right character and personality. “And he was very quick [in the race], he drove a really solid race and just Lewis coming from behind on that hard [tyre] was just in another dimension to everyone else on track,” said Wolff.
“But Valtteri was the second quickest car out there and helped for Lewis to secure the way. Valtteri’s just a great team member and great driver with the right character and personality,” he added.
Valtteri Bottas received team orders to let Lewis Hamilton pass by at the British GP, and he obeyed the orders. Toto Wolff believes that Bottas’ chances of winning the championship are lesser as compared to Hamilton’s.
“It is very important because statistically his odds to win the championship are very small compared to Lewis, who is very much in the fight. And we have discussed that, and as tough as it is for a driver, there is no room for margin here in this year’s Championship,” Wolff continued.
