Valtteri Bottas

Valtteri Bottas has been put under tremendous pressure this season, as he failed to finish on the podium for the third consecutive time at French GP on Sunday. The Finnish driver wanted to go with a two stop strategy, something which his team did not agree upon.

There have been rumors of Valtteri Bottas being replaced at Mercedes by George Russell. However, Toto Wolff, Mercedes team principal believes that the only way Bottas can answer his critics is to perform on track.

I think Valtteri knows the only answer to these rumours is to perform on track. Drive cars fast on Saturday and Sunday. If he does that, he puts himself in a very good situation for next year,” said Wolff.

I still think he delivered a good race: Toto Wolff on Bottas’ French GP performance

Toto Wolff believes that Valtteri Bottas delivered a good race at French GP, despite finishing on the fourth spot. The Austrian said that Bottas was right up there with Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen for vast parts of the race, which is a step in the right direction.

Valtteri Bottas has now failed to finish in the podium places in his last three races. His last podium finish came at Spanish GP, where he finished P3.

“I still think he delivered a good race, to be honest, because he was right up there with Lewis and Max for large parts of it and the development goes in the right direction. Yes, there is still a gap in tyre management and we will look at it in detail, but I see a real progression with how Valtteri tackles the races – and qualifying we never doubted,” said Wolff.
