“We’re not looking for a driver,” Toto Wolff rules out Max Verstappen move to Mercedes

Lewis Hamilton put his signatures on his Mercedes contract, which binds him to the team for two more seasons. However, the second Mercedes seat has been under serious speculation, as George Russell and Valtteri Bottas await to know their fate.
Max Verstappen, who is currently second in the championship standings, and the biggest threat to Lewis Hamilton’s title charge, has often been speculated with a move to Mercedes. However, Toto Wolff ruled out any such move, and believes that the Dutchman is happy with his current team, Red Bull. Moreover, Wolff insisted that the German giants are not on the lookout for new drivers.
Mercedes not interested in making a move for Max Verstappen
Toto Wolff stated that Max Verstappen and Red Bull are pretty content with their current situations, hence, a move for the Dutchman does no good. Moreover, the Austrian boss ruled out a move for McLaren driver, Lando Norris. The young Briton has often been touted as a future world champion, and has been one of the most impressive drivers this season.
“I think that Verstappen and his entourage are very happy where they are,” Wolff said as quoted by GPFans.
“Red Bull is their team and is their home, and why not keep it like that? I think we have our plans with our drivers, and Ferrari has a great line-up, and Lando Norris at McLaren looks pretty settled, so I think the trajectory is set. We’re not looking for a driver,” he added.
Toto Wolff also revealed that a decision on the second Mercedes seat will be made sooner rather than later.
“We want to take the decision in the summer [break]. There are a variety of opinions also within the team and the Daimler board, and we just need to stick our heads together and say, ‘Okay, what is everybody thinking?,” Wolff concluded.
