Why Max Verstappen’s long-term association with Red Bull could turn out to be more iconic than that of Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes’?
Max Verstappen
The reigning F1 World Champion and the Red Bull driver, Max Verstappen, has just signed a massive contract extension with his team. The contract extension has secured the Red Bull seat for the Dutch until 2028 and has made him the driver with the biggest contract in F1 so far.
After the championship win in Abu Dhabi, Max Verstappen was heard to be keen on signing a long contract on the radio. Which surely made the new contract bound to be signed anyhow between the two parties, and there was just a concern of what the length of the contract will be.
The chemistry between the team and Max has been splendid since the driver moved from Toro Rosso to the senior team Red Bull. And it’d be a delight to watch them go head up against the Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton this season.
Why the Red Bull and Max Verstappen partnership will fare out the best?
Lewis Hamilton came to Mercedes in 2013 at the age of 27 and already after spending six seasons with McLaren. The move was seen as controversial by the media. However, after struggling in his first year, the driver made a comeback with the Silver Arrows and went on to win the WDC in 2014.
But this is where the partnership between Max and Red Bull has an edge. The driver joined the team when he was just 18-years old and has had time to completely adjust to the car, with the help of which he eventually won the championship. And adding the new contract to the driver’s profile, he’ll be close to being 30-years old. He’ll get to spend his prime years in the same team as his childhood, helping him to be consistent and have the car built around his style and comfort.
Red Bull had recognized the talents of Max Verstappen when they promoted him to the main team in the middle of the 2016 season. Since then, many drivers have come and gone in the team, but Max remains untouched. The team had bid on him for a long time and are just sticking to their belief in the driver, which has also paid out earlier in 2021.
After his full five seasons, Max seems to be getting better each year, and Red Bull doesn’t want to let that go. The driver has brought back the glory days to the Milton-Keynes-based outfit.
