Frank Bruno, Mike Tyson and Wladimir Klitschko take their pick on who would win Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury

Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury

Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury will be the biggest all-British fight in the history of boxing if the bout sees the light of day. There have been various developments and back and forth chatter between the representatives of Joshua and Fury and as of now, it seems like the fight could happen soon.

It all began in June 2020 when a two-fight deal was reportedly agreed and the same was talked of early in 2021 as well. However, there has been no official and final confirmation of a fight between the two. Although various details including the venue (Saudi Arabia) have been spoken of by promoters, an official word has never arrived.

Last week, in yet another development, Bob Arum, Fury’s co-promoter stated that the fight was ‘dead in the water’. However, Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has now given a positive update telling Sky Sports, “This fight is on, this fight is happening. I believe you’ll get an announcement next week.”

With the fight looking like it could happen very soon, former boxers have started getting their predictions in. Frank Bruno stated that he fancied Tyson Fury to win the encounter. “My money is going to go on Tyson Fury. He’s a much more experienced guy than Anthony Joshua,” Bruno told the Don’t Tell Me The Score podcast.

“Anthony Joshua has still got a lot to learn. He’s very game, he is very tough and he trains very well… but I think Tyson Fury will take him to the cleaners. He’ll take him to the cleaners and take his pants down and smack him. Seriously… he’s going to school him!” he added.

Mike Tyson also predicted Fury to win saying, “It’s very interesting, Joshua is a masterful puncher. But you can see his punches coming, he telegraphs his punches. And that’s just a recipe for disaster if you’re fighting Tyson Fury and you’re telegraphing your punches – to a guy who’s 6ft 7in, come on.”

Wladimir Klitschko however, went for Joshua saying, “Joshua is a superior athlete, great fighter, Olympic champion. Most importantly, he’s a great guy, who carries the torch of this image of a heavyweight champion perfectly. I’m proud to call him as a friend, even though we were [rivals]. And I think and I wish that eventually Joshua is going to unify all of the belts. That’s the eventual plan.”

Although there is no official announcement as of now, all eyes are on the promoters and the fighters as fans await what could be a fight for the ages.
