Novak Djokovic has reiterated his admiration for wheelchair tennis time and time again. He has expressed his admiration towards the thrilling matches that players like Dylan Alcott and Andy Lapthorne put up at every Grand Slam event. The World No.1 also shares a deep bond with a few players from this circuit. 

The second Wheelchair Tennis tournament recently took place in Gallarate, Italy from 15th to 18th October 2020. More than 30 athletes from all over Italy participated in the tournament. Ultimately, it was Alessandro Cianfoni who won the men’s singles final after defeating Giovanni Zeni. The one of many players who was inspired after watching the matches was the 17-time Grand Slam champion.

Djokovic said, “You give me mental strength and inspiration,” to the determined players in a video which he shot in Paris.

The Serbian legend has always worked towards promoting tennis in all of its glory. He has emphasised the importance of wheelchair tennis and has motivated the players who take part in it. Djokovic stressed on the importance of the champs’ presence of courts. He said that what they did was an inspiration to many other players, including himself.

Earlier this month, Nole tweeted, “Such an admiration for wheelchair tennis players. Truly inspiring to see them battle on the tennis court. How do they move the wheels, turn and hit the ball at the same time…? Truly amazing!” 

Not only this, but Djokovic also played the wheelchair tennis with pal Dylan Alcott in 2017 at the Australian Open. Moreover, he congratulated all the competing athletes for their brilliant performances. He seemed undeniably overwhelmed by what he had seen conjured up in the accomplishment of these players. 

In this video, Djokovic said, “35 athletes from all over Italy, 65 games, 70 wheelchairs, 120 bananas, 500 bottles of water. These are the numbers of the Wheelchair tournament that has just ended at the Gallarate Tennis Club.” Similarly, he proceeded to acknowledge Luisa Parasacchi, the Vice President of the tournament.

Djokovic showed appreciation for all the organisers and the players for participating in the tournament. He nodded to all the attempts made by the management to even make this event possible. The Serb tipped his hat to everyone behind the scenes for putting forth an incredible tournament.
