The scoreline of 6-0, 6-2, 7-5 only goes to show how Nadal can demolish anything in his way when he’s at the peak of his prowess.

Even though Djokovic was denied the chance to earn his 18th Grand Slam title, the Serb did not shy away from showering his vanquisher with compliments.

“You showed why you’re ‘King of Clay’ declares Novak Djokovic for rival Rafael Nadal

The World No.1 bowed down to Rafa. Djokovic stated, “Today you showed why you’re ‘King of Clay.’ I have experienced it on my own skin. I don’t have much to say. But that I was completely overplayed by Rafa. By a better player on the court. I admire all his achievements, especially the one here.”

Rafael Nadal has only lost twice in the courts of Roland Garros in his entire career. With his win over Djokovic, he became the only player to have 100 wins at this Grand Slam event.

Keeping in mind the incredible feat that Nadal has managed to achieve, Djokovic said, “It’s stunning score and results and records that he’s got on this court. He lost two times in his entire career. Winning 13 times, there’s not much you can say. All the superlatives you can use, he deserves them.”

A major setback for Nadal was deemed due to the change in the weather and balls. There was a probability that these changes would hamper Nadal’s chances to lay claim to a 13th Roland Garros title.

Alluding to this, the Serb said, “I thought these conditions were better for me than for Rafa. But he has proven everybody wrong,” in his Roland Garros Press Conference.

He continued, “I felt well throughout the entire tournament. I thought I was in a great form. Certainly I could have played better, especially in the first two sets. But he did surprise me with the way he was playing, the quality of tennis he was producing, the level. He’s phenomenal. He played a perfect match.”

“The third set I managed to come back. I kind of found my groove on the court. Had my chances, didn’t use them. He closed out the match. That’s it. He was the far better player on the court today. And absolutely deserved to win,” concluded the World No.1.
