Goldberg last competed inside the squared circle at Elimination Chamber 2022. The legend squared off against Roman Reigns, who was defending his Universal Championship. At the time, Goldberg didn’t know it would end up being his final bout of his career. Recently, The Myth explained why his ‘dream’ match against The Tribal Chief felt like a favor for the latter.

While speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Goldberg revealed that he had contracted COVID three weeks before the match. Despite not feeling 100%, he agreed to face Reigns in Saudi Arabia without hesitation. The 57-year-old believed that he was helping the Head of the Table solidify his record-breaking championship reign. Therefore, he had asked WWE to repay him the favor with one more match.

However, the Stamford-based promotion never called him back, despite promising to do so. Regardless, Da Man felt that it was his own fault for trusting WWE. Over the past year, Goldberg has openly expressed his desire to wrestle one more time. In fact, there were talks of him possibly joining AEW at one point. However, nothing came to fruition. Instead, the WWE Hall of Famer ended up lambasting the Tony Khan-led promotion’s product.

I'll never forget the phone call I got when I was in bed, I couldn't even breathe, I felt like ass. 'Think you can make Saudi in three weeks?' Sure! I'll be there! 'You promise me a match after that?' Sure! Yeah, I should have known better. That's my fault.

As for Roman Reigns, he would end up becoming the longest-reigning champion of the modern era. The Needle Mover lost his title at this year’s WrestleMania against Cody Rhodes. Since then, he’s been absent from WWE television. Having said that, fans expect the former Universal Champion to return soon to confront his former right-hand man, Solo Sikoa.

Goldberg sheds light on his relationship with Triple H

After Goldberg made his WWE debut, he was destined for greatness. One of the few WCW originals that Vince McMahon admired, The Icon began his hunt for the World Heavyweight title in the summer of 2023. However, his momentum crashed when he lost in the Elimination Chamber match at SummerSlam against Triple H.

Since then, there have been rumors and speculation indicating that Hunter pitched to retain his title. Moreover, Goldberg was seemingly frustrated with the booking decision, which likely strained his relationship with HHH. During the interview with Chris Van Vliet, The Icon admitted that there was initially heat between both wrestlers.

However, they’ve squashed their beef and are in a good place right now. The Hall of Famer went on to heap praise on Hunter’s career and his current job as Chief Content Officer (CCO).
