โPick up the phone and beg someone?โ Goldberg reveals why he hasnโt wrestled since Roman Reigns in 2022; how his retirement match came about
The WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg recently spoke about his upcoming retirement match in WWE while touching upon how it came to fruition.

A few months ago, it was announced that Bill Goldberg will have his WWE retirement match in 2025. For the unversed, the 58-year-old hasnโt competed inside the squared circle since losing to Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber 2022, which was held in Saudi Arabia. It seemed like the end of the road for the WCW icon.
But heโs got one more match left in him. However, why did it take so long for Goldberg to have his swansong materialize? While speaking to Ariel Helwani, Bill wondered if anyone was expecting him to beg for it, something he said heโs never done in his life. The WWE Hall of Famer, however, revealed that he was lucky enough to have received a call from Triple H.
It happened when Bill was driving a tractor on his property. The erstwhile defensive tackle for the Falcons claimed that Hunter truly spoke from his heart that day. The WWE CCO, whom Goldberg addressed as Mr. Levesque, apparently came across one of the interviews Bill did a while ago where he said WWE owes him a retirement match.

Vince McMahon was obliged to bestow it on Bill, but his WWE ouster in June 2022 kept those plans from coming to fruition. McMahonโs son-in-law took it upon himself to direct the closing chapter of Goldbergโs wrestling career that has spanned for about three decades. Da Man also told Helwani that he and Hunter are on good terms now after burying the hatchet on their rift, which dates back to the early 2000s.
Has WWE scrapped Goldbergโs potential feud with Gunther?
The last time Goldberg was seen on WWE programming, The Rock closed out that showโBad Blood. Anyway, Bill was invited by WWE since the PLE was in Atlanta. The former Universal Champion attended the event with his 18-year-old son, Gage, and wife. They were having a blast until Gunther came out and started berating the Tulsa-born icon.

The Ring General hoped for Gage that Goldberg was a better father to him than he was as a pro wrestler. Bill had heard enough and jumped the barricade to make a beeline for the outspoken Austrian. However, the security personnel averted a potential pull-apart brawl. Ever since that segment, there have been rumblings of WWE not having any intentions to turn it into a matchup.
Goldberg was asked the same by Helwani in the aforementioned interview. Da Man alluded to WWE doing him dirty because he was long associated with WCW. Bill cited Stingโs treatment in WWE to bolster his claim of ex-WCW names being begrudgingly seen by WWE to this day. Goldberg also quipped that the company detoured from that angle with Gunther to accentuate the John Cena retirement tour.
Is Goldberg still mad with Vince McMahon after previously trashing on him?
In one of the excerpts from his chat with Ariel Helwani, the WWE HOFโer talked about Vince McMahon not being at the helm while still being alive. Bill thought heโd never see that day. Goldberg avoided diving into everything McMahonโs going through at the moment.

However, the former WCW Champion only had good things to say about his ex-boss. Bill claimed that Vince always treated him with respect and saw the Georgia University alum as one of his favorite talents to book in WWE.
Itโs worth noting that Goldberg was incensed with McMahon not keeping his promise of bestowing a retirement match on him. However, Bill eventually understood that there was a drastic overhaul happening in the leadership of WWE at the time.
