Gary Player is initiating legal proceedings against his son Marc Player and grandson Damian Player. He is alleging that they have either sold or tried to sell items of memorabilia that they had agreed to return to him. The memorabilia includes trophies and golf clubs. Gary initiated a complaint against Marc in May 2021. Subsequently, a lawsuit was also initiated against Damian in November of the same year. Palm Beach County is holding the cases.
Gary along with his legal team has instituted action against his son Marc and grandson Damian due to a longstanding disagreement over collectibles. Stuart Singer, Gary’s lawyer, stated that Gary unwillingly filed the lawsuit after ending his business relationship with Marc in 2019. Damian also finds his name in a separate case due to other misdeeds. He allegedly sought out buyers for different collectibles that were in other lockers back in South Carolina.
The South African golf legend is considered to be one of the best ever set foot on the green. He boasts nine majors on the PGA Tour alongside another nine major championship victories on the Champions Tour. This is sheer evidence of his talent and golfing ability, which has not been matched by many. Gary is a World Golf Hall of Fame member since 1974.

Gary Player files lawsuits against son Marc and grandson Damian over memorabilia sale
Court documents revealed that Gary was not aware that several of his beloved artifacts were auctioned off in 2021, fetching staggering sums. The case also has an issue concerning a domain name – GaryPlayer.com. Apparently, Marc Player failed to transfer to his dad, once again putting him in a tough spot. Marc’s attorney, Darren Heitner, said that it is still early days for the lawsuit. Heitner argued that the agreement reached between the parties in 2012 was not valid. Heitner informed that Damian Player has not retained him.
Father to six children, Gary Player led a happily married life with his wife Vivienne for many years. Vivienne fell to cancer only last year. Donald Trump awarded Gary Player the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2021. Marc, Gary’s son, worked as a manager for his father for almost 20 years. Gary granted rights to certain trademarks, likenesses, logos, and images to entities led by Marc.
Some 3 years back, Gary Player revoked these rights from his son over a disputed amount of $5 million, which Marc owes him. According to Singer, a judge has suggested that they will issue a preliminary injunction. This will stop any further sale of Gary’s items. A couple of months back, an auction trail had several notable items for sale which were related to Player. These included famous golf collectibles such as the 1959 Gary Player Black Knight Putter and the 1968 Carreras Piccadilly World Match Play Golf trophy.
