“I’ve asked him, and I get nothing”: Jon Rahm on receiving unhelpful advise from Tiger Woods
Jon Rahm and Tiger Woods
Several people grow up idolising Tiger Woods. One of the greatest golfers of all time, he certainly has an impact on everyone; players and fans alike. Just like that Jon Rahm also idolised Woods while growing up.
Yet, even after meeting him, and reading Woods‘ book about his Masters win, it has been hard for Rahm to take advise from his worthy opponent. “You might need to ask Justin Thomas,” Rahm said to golf.com on Tuesday. “There’s only one man in this field that hears advice from Tiger, because I’ve asked before and I get nothing.”
“I learnt the lesson the hard way”: Jon Rahm on getting no advise from Tiger Woods
Jon Rahm talks about the lesson that he learnt the hard way. The first time during a practice round at the 2017 Tour Championships, he asked Tiger for some tips on putting on Bermuda grass greens. “He turned around and said, ‘It’s all about feel,’ and just kept going,” Rahm recalled. Disappointed, Rahm walked away with a sarcastic response.
The second time he experienced this was at his first Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas. “You just got to be shallow,” was the only piece of advise Woods gave him. “Meanwhile, I turn around and J.T.’s there with him, and he’s getting a whole dissertation on what to do.”
Woods seems to have a certain soft spot for J.T., describing him as a family member. He also says that he will not give advice openly to his competitors because he simply does not want them to have an advantage.
