After Jon Rahm voiced his opinion on the Official World Golf Ranking points recently, Scott made his thoughts clear on the rumors. He said that the player who joined the Saudi-backed tour should’ve been aware of the high risks their move guaranteed.

Even after knowing that, they made their own choice. Scott further emphasized that now having played with LIV, they should accept the reality. He himself has weighed between LIV and PGA and admitted that the risks for him were too bigger. He still wants to continue his PGA journey and win Championships.

The topic discussion went viral as Adam Scott admitted that it’ll be a pity for Cameron Smith if he misses the 2024 Olympics in Paris, but it was his choice. After The Masters changed their standings, Smith along with other LIV players became eligible for the tournament starting in April.

Sadly, his Olympic game future still remains unclear. OWGR points do not include LIV players. If Smith’s ranking falls down on the list, he’ll be cut off from main events. This holds true for all players who defected from PGA. Scott commented, “I think it would be unfortunate.”

“However, again, like everyone said, they’ve made their decisions, and some of those decisions – well, that decision may come with some sacrifice in the short or long term.”

“In the short term, it was sacrificing the ability to have world ranking points. If they didn’t know that, then they’re realising that’s the case at the moment. So I think it would be unfortunate, yes, for Australia and their team.”

He further stated in the Sony Open in Hawaii, “Cam also made these decisions as did Leish [Marc Leishman] and Matt Jones and any other Aussie who has gone on there. There may be some sacrifice. Seems like they’re OK with living with that mostly, at least the Aussies seem that way.”

Scott explained further, pointing out that OWGR points are very hard to take. To explain his point, he compared his ranking score to Jon Rahm stating, “I beat about four people last week (at the Tournament of Champions), so I shouldn’t get a lot of points.”

“But Jon Rahm beat a field of champion players on the PGA Tour and apparently the best 30 players on the tour for the year, so I think that’s worthy of some points. I don’t think winning last week is potentially getting awarded enough.”
